The institute intends to increase per capita income and living standard of small-holder rice growers of Ruwhiti irrigation scheme at kakonko District in Kigoma region. This will be achieved by providing training on improved irrigated rice farming.The aim of this training is to improve rice productivity from 10 – 40 bags per acre by 2016/17. The training has commenced on 15th July 2014 were by baseline survey in the scheme was conducted for three (03) days by a team of facilitators from the institute and officers from
DAICO/DED, Irrigation office
and Village leaders.
The purpose of
the survey was to;

Study the real situation in the field through
observations, home visits in a participatory approach.
Ø
Identify problems existing in the scheme which
prevent successful irrigated rice farming.
Ø
Basing on the problems identified, a training
program will be prepared and implemented.
